No.223 - 12 January
Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been a super first full week of the spring term. We’re really impressed by the children’s 2024 enthusiastic approach to learning; they’re quickly becoming fully immersed in their new topics. It was exciting to see the Year 5 and Reception space topics underway, with a fully equipped space station up and running in the Chapel for some imaginative role play. I think the Year 5 children will want to visit their younger peers to share their expertise and perhaps have a turn in the space ship too!
Year 4 have also started the term scientifically with a visit from a workshop provider, “Hands-On Science” who helped them investigate the science of magnets with some super iron-filing display boxes, and a fun marble-run design challenge too. I’ve enjoyed talking to Year 4 today about my previous life as a research scientist – they are full of curiosity and questions, which is exactly what “a zest for learning and love of life” is all about!
With Year 1 and Year 6 finding out about our planet’s wonderful life, Year 3 travelling back to the time of Ancient Greece and Year 2 becoming dinosaur detectives, the school is definitely an exciting place to learn.
We’ve started well in assemblies too – this term’s assembly series is called “Pick a P” and it’s full of promises, puppets, pea-themed challenges and plenty of passion! Each week, the children are introduced to a different person who met Jesus face to face. We’re reflecting on how they were changed by the experience and learning about Jesus’ compassion and love for every individual that he encountered. I’m sure it’ll help to remind us of the importance of non-judgmental respect and kindness too!
Next week, we’re looking forward to the temporary classrooms for the Pewley children finally being installed in the playground and basketball court. The work begins on Wednesday, with the cranes arriving at lunchtime on Friday 19th. There won’t be any parking on site at all on that day and the school site will be completely closed all weekend. It’ll be exciting to see how quickly the project unfolds!
With love, Clare
Promise of the week: “Seek and you will find.” What is your life’s purpose? Jesus – face to face with the three wise ones.
Cars parked at pick up and drop off: Please do turn off your engine if you’re parked up and waiting at the start or end of the school day. We notice the poor air quality at the school gate and it’s much worse if engines are idling. Let’s do our best to look after the environment, and also make the air cleaner for the children too!
After-School Clubs: If your child attends after-school clubs, check the notices below by clicking on the junior or infant section.
CLOSING DATE FOR PRIMARY APPLICATIONS – 15 January 2024: The deadline for applications to Year R and Year 3 for September 2024 is Monday 15 January. Online applications can be made via Surrey County Council’s website.
Dogs: Just a reminder that we do have a policy of no dogs on school property. If you walk to school with your dog, please wait outside the grounds and ideally away from the gateways.
Menu: week 1 (Pewley at HT) beginning 15 January.

HTSC & FOPS news
As we continue to be one school on one site, going forward the PTA committees are coming together to plan community events and for fundraising.
With this in mind, all parents and carers who would like to help with ideas or organising events, especially those who have already committed to organising an event, are invited to attend the joint planning meeting on Thursday 18 January at 7pm at the March Hare.
So we have an idea of numbers, if you are planning to come along, please contact a committee member (Ashley (Y4 parent), Vicci (Y4/R), Debbie (Y3/1), Anne (Y4/1) or Jen (Y3/1), or your class rep who will pass it on to the Chairs.
Love, HTSC & FOPS x
