No. 315 - 3 November

Dear Parents/Carers

Please read the ParentMail from Clare for all this week's news and updates on next week's arrangements.

Thought of the week: Mr Dizzy "Build your house on the rock." When the storms of life come, where do you find strength?

HT Parent Consultations

Next week, we start our parent consultation meetings at HT, with Pewley’s parents’ evenings taking place during the following week. It’s so good to be able to meet up and discuss each individual child’s learning journey. If you haven’t yet booked a slot, do get in touch – it’s so important for our teachers to hear about how it’s going from your perspective. And the children love to know that you’re interested and proud of the progress they’re making. It may be that you’ve already met up with your child’s teacher recently in which case you may not need another appointment. Please remember, with a whole class of children to fit in, each appointment is only ten minutes. We’ll do our best to keep to time, but bear with us if we’re running a bit late. The teacher-parent meetings take place in each classroom; feel free to enjoy time looking at your children's books while you're waiting for your time slot, and you may park in the lower playground on Tuesday evening (this is not possible on Thursday evening as we still have lots of children using the school grounds until 6pm).

Admission to Year R and Year 3 – September 2024

The Surrey County Council on-line booking system is now open for September 2024 applications for Year R and Year 3 and closes on 15 January 2024. This applies if you have a child:

  • due to start school in September 2024 (born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020)
  • in Year 2 transferring to Junior School. Please note that even though Pewley Down and Holy Trinity schools are federated parents must still apply for entry to Year 3 at HT.

Applications can be made on the Surrey Council website: Apply for a place at a primary, infant or junior school.

In addition to the SCC application there is also a junior and an infant supplementary information form, if you are applying in certain categories, available on the website or from either school office. Supplementary information forms should be returned direct to the school. Guidance on the admissions process can also be found on the Surrey Matters website: Primary school admissions are now open.

FOPS News

We are keen as a PTA committee to support both parent/carers and teachers at this difficult time with very limited access to the building at Pewley. Thank you so much to you all for your resilience, and to our teachers and children who have managed this so well. We want to continue to support the school and you as parents, please do get in touch with us if you need anything at friendsofpewley@gmail.com.

We are also working out the next steps for our Christmas fundraising events and will be in touch soon to share the news.

You will have seen from the ParentMail that we are also holding the Christmas Art Competition, sponsored by Knight Frank. Your child will be given an A3 blank paper to draw a Christmas House and entries will be displayed in the Knight Frank estate agent on the High Street – last year they looked amazing and lovely for the children to see their artwork lit up in a shop window! There will also be a small prize for the winners from each year.

Look out next week for your children’s Christmas Card designs as they should be back for you to order, they looked amazing!
