No. 295 - 31 March
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve enjoyed the final week of term – and are excited that the holidays have arrived. Thank you for partnering with us for another successful few months. I think we’re all looking forward to a good rest!
It’s been great to celebrate the end of each year group’s spring term topics. The Year 2 Dinosaur Museum on Monday was spectacular; thank you for coming along to share in the children’s learning and excitement. I’ve enjoyed children coming to show me their finished topic books, stunning art journals, or individual pieces of work. Giving out headteacher’s awards is such a privilege and the children get such a boost from this extra attention and praise. If your children bring home any work today, I know you’ll take great pleasure in taking a proper look. We all love an appreciative audience for our efforts!
It was also a delight to listen to the junior school choir’s concert, together with a crowd of family and friends. With a theme of positivity running through the whole repertoire, it made all of us feel good!
There was yet more enthusiastic singing at the Easter service on Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church. Thank you so much to all the parent helpers who came along. I thought it was a great occasion and a wonderful way to celebrate Robert’s final HTPD church service. Next term, he’ll visit for another couple of assemblies, before retiring at the end of May. If you’d like to add any notes of encouragement or thanks to our farewell souvenir, please do let either office know.
As you know, we break up today for the Easter holidays; the children return on Tuesday 18th April (with the staff spending our final INSET day of this academic year the day before). Please do make sure they arrive on time, ready for the start of lessons (this is such an important part of the school day and latecomers really do miss out. However, do make sure that children at the juniors aren’t left unsupervised in the school playground. They should only arrive at 8.30 – any earlier and they will have to go to breakfast club to make sure they are safely looked after).
Thank you again for your part in our whole school community. I’ve heard so many times in recent weeks about the support that families find in belonging to HTPD with examples of specific ways that people help each other out – thanks to all of you for your contribution to making it such a great place! Have a wonderful Easter – I pray you’ll find the joy of the risen Lord Jesus in your family time together.
With love,
Clare

FOPS News
Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for all your support this term. With your help, we’ve had some really fun events and raised much needed funds for the school which breaks down as follows:
- Quiz and curry night - £2000
- Bake sale - £200 (not including the one taking place today!)
- Sponsored read - £770
The Sponsored Bunny Hop which is taking place today has already raised over £600! We had a target of £200 so this is an incredible show of support – thank you. If you’d still like to donate then please do so here.
£500 was also raised and donated for the Syria and Turkey earthquake appeal which is a real testament to our school community.
Now onto the weekly roundup!
Coronation Drawing Competition
We are excited to be launching another art competition together with Knight Frank Estate Agents. The Christmas competition received over 60 entries and it was wonderful to see the children’s artworks displayed in the Knight Frank Guildford window display. The winners will also receive Book Vouchers.
The challenge is to draw ‘WHAT THE CORONATION MEANS TO YOU’. This could be a picture of a royal celebration, portrait, crown, community street party etc. Refer to the ParentMail for details. Deadline is Wednesday 19th April.
Coronation Party
FOPS committee members Kate and Debbie are busy planning the coronation party to be held at the school on Saturday 29th April. They have lots of fun activities planned, including crafts, a royal themed trail, a baking competition and lots more!
The categories for the bake competition are:
- Nature-themed bake – anything to represent nature
- International bake – a signature bake from a country outside the UK
- Coronation-themed – any element of the Coronation
- Crown Jewels – can you bake the Crown Jewels?
There will be a prize for the child and adult winners in each category.
If you would like to help out on the day or have any questions, please contact Kate or Debbie directly or ask your rep, who can then get in touch with them. Their email addresses are: katelloyd741@gmail.com and Debbiesmith@post.com
Groundforce Day
On Saturday 22nd April 1:30pm to 3:30pm we'll be tidying up the school playground and we would love you to join us! We might be planting, cleaning the play equipment or helping to build something the children need - it’s nothing too strenuous and all help is greatly appreciated.
The last few have been really good fun for the children as they are able to play outside with their friends, and also help (for a bit anyway!) and it’s a good opportunity to meet and chat to fellow parents.
Tea, coffee and cakes provided. Please sign up here or contact Debbie Smith if you would like any more info.
Summer Fair
The Pewley Summer Fair will be held on Saturday 17th June. We’ve already started planning the event and if you’d like to get involved, please contact us (Eleanor and Sally) as we’re always open to new ideas and offers of help!
We hope you have a great Easter break and look forward to seeing you at the events we have planned for the summer term.
Love
Eleanor and Sally x
