No. 292 - 10 March
Dear Parents and Carers,
I’m so thrilled to be able to announce that our Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics team have been crowned as County Champions! This is such a great result. So many children from across the school have really enjoyed taking part in these events, and then to win the final is the icing on the cake. I’m so grateful to our sports teachers for their coaching, and to Laura Sutton who has worked so hard to organise it all. Most of all, congratulations to our athletes!
Next Wednesday and Thursday are scheduled to be the next of the National Education Union’s strike days. Unless there is a change before then, I anticipate that we will need to restrict attendance on this occasion for those classes that don’t have a teacher. The industrial action is likely to only affect Pewley. Covering two consecutive days isn’t possible. I know that, despite many of you supporting the teachers’ decision to strike, it will also be inconvenient; I will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible about the classes that will be affected. Thank you again for your patience, understanding and continued support as we navigate our way through some difficult decisions.
Thank you as well to you all for taking the time to meet with your child’s class teacher over the past two weeks. It was great to see our Pewley parents enjoying sharing in their child’s recent progress at this week’s consultations. Do let us know if you haven’t yet managed to arrange an appointment – we really do want to make this a priority and can work around your availability. Just email your child’s teacher or the office team.
I’m sure, like me, you were surprised on Tuesday to see the world covered in white! We loved seeing the joy that a sudden fall of snow brought to the children. It was great to be able to enjoy the snow together – for many of our international families, it was even more exciting, with it being the first time that they’d experienced playing in the snow, making snowmen and “seeing heaven in the moment”. In assembly, we talked about the beauty of a world transformed and blanketed so suddenly overnight; I spoke to the children about how in the Bible, forgiveness is described as being like white snow. It’s a great metaphor - I hope you enjoyed it too, although I’m glad it didn’t stay around too long!
With love,
Clare

Whole School Notice
Important notice to dog owners:
Please remember that, apart from trained therapy dogs, we are unable to allow dogs to come onto the school site. Even the most friendly of dogs can be a risk to children that are unfamiliar with them and, in crowded places, dogs can become distressed and aggressive. We've also noticed dog mess on the grassy area by the Cline Road school gate, so please make sure that you clean up if your dog does make a mess. It's a health hazard for the children - and gets all over the carpets in school! Dog owners, thank you so much for your support.

Red Nose Day Friday 17 March
We will be celebrating Red Nose Day in school and raising money for Comic Relief to help people going through the toughest times in their lives, in the UK and around the world. Following the work of our school council in collecting ideas from their classes, we’re planning a range of fun activities through the day including:
- Allowing the children to wear something red for the day (or everything, but clothing only – no red hair or faces!)
- A variety of silly competitions in class
- A “whose nose?” quiz
- A Red Nose scavenger hunt around the school grounds
The suggested donation to take part in all the fun is £2.50, although if you are in a position to be more generous, we’d welcome that generosity in attempting to reach our fundraising goal of £1000. We’ll be out on the Friday morning with buckets at the gates for any cash donations and you can also make your donation on Parentpay.
Lunch - Week 3 beginning 13 March. On Friday, the Sausage Rolls will be swapped with Bacon & Cheese Turnovers.
