No. 268 - 15 July

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach this final weekend before the school year is complete, I’m excitedly heading off to celebrate my daughter’s wedding! I’m writing this a day early to make sure I’m there in time for the rehearsal tomorrow – such an exciting prospect!

There’s been a lot going on in school this week; the leavers’ service for our Year 6 children and their parents at St Mary’s was a wonderful occasion! It’s always good to have an opportunity to reflect at times of change, thinking and praying about all the good times that we’ve shared together. Then I had the delight of watching the Year 3 children performing songs and readings from their Second World War topic. Thank you for being so keen to take part in everything that the children want to share with you!

Next week in school, the celebrations will continue; we are looking forward to marking the end of the academic year. I hope you enjoyed reading your child’s report that came home this week; I thoroughly enjoyed finding out about each of their highlights and all the progress that they’ve made. We are so proud of all the children reaching such high standards across the curriculum; those in Year 6 deserve a special mention – their SATS results are such a fantastic testimony to their hard work, especially in the light of all the turmoil over the last two years! At HTPD, the scores overall are almost exactly the same as in 2019, unlike the national statistics where there’s been quite a noticeable drop in attainment.

Celebration Afternoon next Wednesday will be a great occasion – please feel free to talk to your child’s teacher about anything that concerns you as they move on, as well as to enjoy sharing your child’s successes. And, for YR, Y1, Y3, Y4 and Y5 do take the opportunity to visit their new classrooms. Remember we start at 1.30 at Pewley and at 1.45 at HT; please feel free to take your child home once you’ve enjoyed looking at all their work (just sign them out with their teacher). At HT, we’ll also be enjoying a choir and orchestra performance, as well as announcing some excellent news about our sporting success this year. Join us outside for some music at 2pm!

Next week is going to be a challenge for us all to stay cool in school – please remind the children to drink plenty, wear a hat, stay in the shade and wear sunscreen. We’ve had to make some adjustments because of the hot weather to both the Y2 fun day and the Y6 Trinity Trek which are happening on Friday. We’ve planned plenty of shade breaks, and Y6 are finishing back at school to cook up their supper on Trangia stoves, instead of going all the way to Shere; I’m sure it’ll be just as much fun as usual!

With love,

Buddy Bench

We are so grateful to the Friary Shopping Centre for their generous gift to the school; they’ve supplied a beautiful buddy bench! This has already started to be well used in the playground and will be a lovely addition to our kindness to one another! They sent the following message: “To continue our support for Mental Health Awareness Week, we are thrilled to be able to donate a Buddy Bench to two local schools. This year the theme was loneliness and we wanted to help to promote positive mental health and inclusivity in a way that will help the children to nurture friendships to avoid them feeling alone when they are in school. I really hope that the children at Pewley Down School enjoy using the bench for years to come and that it encourages them all to look out for one another."

FOPS meeting, Thursday 21st July, 8pm, Rogues Bar

Our final FOPS meeting is next Thursday. If you can attend please let me know so I can reserve enough space:

Thank you to everyone who has supported FOPS this year, whether volunteering or attending one of our events. We are going to have some great events next term so please do keep an eye on this page when we’re back in September.

Have an excellent summer!

Thank you!!

A massive ‘thank you’ and a big pat on the back to our entire school community for supporting our first summer fair for three years held last Saturday! It was a bit warm (glad we’re not doing it this weekend!) and concern for my escalating pinkness over the day resulted in constant reapplying of sun cream aside, everyone had fun. All the raffle winners have been contacted and have received their prizes – Congratulations to the Crawford family for winning the Star Prize of a £250 Gift card, and also to Alexa Jago for the winning bid on our fabulous Silent Auction prize. We are still collecting some costs but estimate that we’ve raised over £6500. Well done everyone!

End of year collections – our chance to say ‘thank you’ to the teaching and support staff

Details for individual year group collections and cards have been shared on Parentmail for years 3,5 & 6 and also the support staff collection. If you would like to contribute, please do so by Monday 18th July to allow the class reps time to buy gifts before the end of term – this is entirely voluntary and you do not need a PayPal account to contribute.

If you are shopping online, one way to support the school is through and selecting HTSC Holy Trinity School Community as your cause. Over 4000 retailers are affiliated, and every purchase makes a difference.

Second Hand Uniform

If you need any school branded second hand uniform, or have school branded uniform to donate, please contact Simone Chidlow. There will be a uniform stall at the Summer Fair where all the uniform we have will be available to choose from. If you are donating uniform, please ensure it is clean, no stains and that there are no holes or frayed edges.

Dates for your diary

Many thanks
