No. 266 - 1 July
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week it was fantastic to welcome over 90 new children to our Year 3 transition event. They were all so relaxed, really sociable and keen to make friends, and full of confidence as they looked around their new school. Similarly, to welcome their parents and carers to our Y3 information evening was just great. How lovely to be able to make face to face connections and focus on our home:school partnership again, talking to both children and adults about our school values right at the start of their junior school journey. There was definitely a “zest for learning and love of life” in the air.
How exciting to be looking ahead to next week’s Sports Day! We are so looking forward to being able to have a full audience of parents and carers cheering the children along. It’s going to be so much fun being able to celebrate the children’s sporting success together with you all. At Pewley, please come and join us right at the start of the day on the field (we plan to start the races at 9.15); the children will enjoy a festival of house-based competitions, with plenty of stickers and opportunities for everyone to take part in lots of different events…including the return of the much-missed parent races!
Then, later in the afternoon, it’ll be the turn of the juniors. At 1.15, firstly Year 3 and Year 4 will compete in their races, followed by Year 5 and Year 6 at around 2.15. The children will be seated up on the bank by the adventure trail, and parents can watch from all three other sides of the pitch. We’ll ask the children to stay safely on the bank and not come over to see you; please wait until the end of the day to catch up with them. We’ll finish the whole afternoon off with a tug-of-war competition watched by the whole school before announcing which house has accumulated the most points to be crowned this year’s sporting victors. Please feel free to wear your child’s house colours and be ready to cheer loudly! We’ll do our very best to keep to time, but please bear with us if we’re slightly later than scheduled.
Please remember to walk if you can and park carefully, remembering not to block driveways. There’s plenty of parking in town and it only takes a few minutes to walk from there; there will be some limited parking on the playground at HT if you’re staying all afternoon, but please take extra care! No one will be able to drive in or out after 1.15pm, until past 3.30pm when any children will have been safely met.
I’m also looking forward to our summer fair season, starting tomorrow afternoon with Pewley’s much anticipated event. Do come along from 3 o’clock and enjoy raising money for the school while having a lovely time together! The first prize in the raffle is a £400 voucher for a cycle shop; it’s making our staff cyclists rather excited at the prospect of winning! There’s still plenty of time

International Eco-Schools Green Flag
We are very pleased to have received the Green Flag award. Well done to the Eco Team for working really hard to involve the whole school in being environmentally aware in many ways such as looking after the school grounds and thinking about coming to school in a green way.
Mount Alvernia Hospital car parks
Please avoid using the Mount Alvernia car parks as a short cut to Pewley Way. The two car parks are particularly busy first thing, and the hospital are concerned for the safety of parents and children, or children on their own. With the regular movement of vehicles in a relatively small space they feel this is an accident waiting to happen.

HTSC Committee – positions vacant
Myself (Chair), Claudine Nel (Secretary) and Tom Day (Treasurer) will be stepping down from HTSC at the end of this school year as our children will be moving into their last year at Holy Trinity. It would be great if we could have a team in place to handover to before the end of the school year. If you are at all interested in one of these roles (they can be shared), please do get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Without these positions being filled, the criteria for the Charity Commission will not be met and it will be difficult for the school to generate fundraising activity to support our children’s learning. The model for how events could be organised in future can be altered to a rotating year group approach to reduce the level of input currently required by the Chair role.
Please find the links to the July/August issue of Families magazine, this issue is packed with things to do in the summer holidays from Summer fetes and days out to holiday camps, workshops and more. There are quite a lot of free events listed plus ideas for screen free projects, crafts, free printable activities and lots more!
