No. 224 - 19 January

Dear Parents & Carers

Firstly, thank you for all the words of appreciation and kindness that followed my big announcement earlier this week. I realise the news that I will be leaving at the end of this academic year came as a big surprise – but you’ll be so glad to know that the governors are already working hard to find a new leader for HTPD. And, as I told the children, I am determined to make the most of every single day of being headteacher of this amazing school. With two terms ahead of me, it feels like a lovely long time of celebrating all that is great about our school community. I’m determined to “see heaven in the moment” whenever and wherever I can!

Please do let the governors know any thoughts you have about what the school needs next – it’s a great opportunity for new creative thinking and exciting new ideas. The school vision and values will, of course, be so important and are a strong foundation for a new leader to inherit. I believe that the governors will be writing to you shortly for you to express your thoughts – please do take the time to share in this important recruitment process. They really value your opinions. They’re also keen to ask the children what sort of person they’d be looking for too.

I also need to update you on the installation of the temporary Pewley classrooms. Unfortunately, there is strong wind forecast for Sunday so we had to make the difficult decision earlier in the week to postpone the crane. It can only operate when the wind speed is below 20mph so we couldn’t take that risk. Instead, it’s booked to arrive at the same time next Friday 26th and then it’ll be a speedy operation to build the modular classrooms over next weekend. You’ll see that the foundation pads are already in place and it’s exciting to imagine how much space the children will have!

Meanwhile, there have been some exciting activities happening in school this week – Nick’s class were the first of the Year 3 classes to enjoy a Greek drama workshop, with a visit from Sophocles himself! And some children took part in a fantastic sporting event at Guildford Spectrum: The Panathlon, where our team were brilliant ambassadors for the school taking part in a whole range of different sporting challenges and coming away with well-deserved 4th place medals. Today, a team of Year 6 footballers are competing in the Surrey County finals. I’ll let you know how they get on – if the pitches aren’t frozen solid! Stay warm everyone!

With love,

Promise of the week: “Wait on the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desire.” Psalm 37 v4. Face to Face with Simeon – how can you be more patient?

Clandon Park - invitation to share your thoughts and ideas on the designs

We are conducting research around Clandon House, what happens there, and the way that we present objects and tell stories. This independent research is conducted by Flow Associates and designers Pimental and Partners, for the National Trust. The project is early in the design process and we want to ask people who might potentially visit, or who may not have thought of visiting at all, about what would interest them. What would excite you? How could Clandon House be the best experience it could be when you visit? We will be inviting people to join us for a focus group in Guildford or an online / phone interview between 19th February and 1st March. As a thank you for taking part, we are offering £30 PayPal credit or Amazon Voucher to participants. We would love for you to be involved in the conversation around the future of Clandon Park. If you are interested in taking part, let us know by visiting
