No. 276 - 14 October

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been very inspiring this week to see the new 2022-23 PTA committees setting to work on their fund-raising plans for both schools. At Pewley, the Friends of Pewley School (FOPS) are ready for the children’s disco that’s happening tomorrow. And the inaugural meeting of the Holy Trinity School Community (HTSC) committee took place just last night, with great excitement and imaginative plans for both fun and fundraising afoot. As a school, we’re so very grateful to everyone who gets involved – and it’s exciting to see how the children’s experiences at HTPD can be enriched through such generosity and creativity! I’m looking forward to all the different events that have been planned. Do keep an eye on the calendar and get involved if you can. Hopefully we’ll be able to raise enough funds for new laptops at HT, and refurbishment of the Rainbow Room at Pewley; as well as ensuring that our libraries remain well stocked with new books, and making sure that no child misses out on opportunities due to financial hardship. It’s great to be part of such a resourceful and generous community!

Today’s Fluffy Friday is proving a success with over 25 different activities taking place across both sites. The children are very happy to be enjoying the whole day focused on something that they’ve chosen; they’re making new friends, trying out new things and working beyond their usual comfort zone! Even in Reception, our very youngest children have captured the spirit of Fluffy Friday with all sorts of activities on offer, inside and out. If you didn’t manage to send in £1, please do send it in next week, or make a payment on ParentPay so that we can afford to do this again next term. It’s always such a highlight! Thank you to all those parent volunteers who helped make it happen – and to the amazing staff team for their energy and enthusiasm!

Next week, school closes early on Wednesday (12.00 at Pewley, 12.15 at HT). The staff will be working hard together over the two and a half INSET days, building team together, thinking about how to be excellent communicators and learning some great strategies for teaching maths. After that, we’ll all be glad to relax into the half term break.

When we return, on Monday 31st October, we’ll be preparing for Harvest Festival. Our assembly story has reached the episode when Moses and the Israelites have to rely on God’s provision in the desert. It’s such a great story of thankfulness and community living and will provide a super context for us to think about all that we can be grateful for. We’d love the children to bring in harvest parcels to help us reflect on the earth’s bounty. We’ll send these to Guildford Food Bank as a way of looking after people who need our support. You might want to get ahead and collect some provisions from the list over the half term break; do take a look at the flyer if you’d like more information. We’ve been asked to collect any of the following items:

  • Cereal/ Porridge
  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned soup
  • Instant flavoured noodles
  • Tinned fruit
  • Jam
  • Spray clean
  • Shower gel

Our Harvest Festivals will take place at Holy Trinity at 8.55am on Wednesday 2nd, and at Pewley, we’ll be celebrating on Thursday 3rd. On both occasions, we’ll be joined by Robert Cotton, Rector of

Holy Trinity Church. You’d be very welcome to join in too; it’s just an opportunity to join in with our usual assembly singing and prayers. If you’re in need of some joy and positivity, do come along!

Until then, have a super weekend, and a restful half term holiday when it arrives!

With love,

Clare

FOPS NEWS

Hi everyone!

This week is all about the school disco tomorrow. We’ve been working hard to make sure the children have as much fun as possible as well as raising money for the school.

On the subject of fundraising, plans are being made to renovate the rainbow room, using the money raised from the summer fair. Thank you so much for continuing to support us at events, the money makes a huge difference.

Last weekend was Groundforce Day and a lovely group of parents and children helped tidy up the school grounds - hopefully you’ve noticed how much tidier it looks!

At Groundforce day, we cleaned the FOPS noticeboard. You will find the board to the left of the double doors into the school in the playground. We’ll be putting up news and photos, so please have a look when you’re next at Pewley.

That’s all for now!

Have a great weekend.
