JTLYK 28 February

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children have returned to school after the half term holiday ready to jump back into their learning!

We are looking forward to meeting with you at Parents Evening next week. If you haven’t made an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher, please get in touch to arrange a convenient time.

Next week, we are excited to be taking part in a school-wide STEM Week, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths! Plus, we’ll be linking this with World Book Day and hearing all the famous fairy-tales.

Talk to your child about what activities they got up to on each day of the week!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Danni, Jo, Kathryn, Julia and Tom

English

Adjective noun phrases and Gandalf’s magic MAPOS spell came in very handy this week, as we wrote picturesque descriptions of our very own dragons. We planned and designed our own dragons and then wrote detailed descriptions in our books. We then had a go at using an AI programme that generates an image from text. Here are some of our dragon designs.

Like all technology, AI image creators can be fun, engaging, and incredibly useful. However, it's important to use them responsibly. It was wonderful to see the children enjoying this activity at school, but it's essential to also have a conversation at home about the importance of being thoughtful and cautious when engaging with AI platforms online. Encouraging safe and appropriate use will help them make the most of these tools while navigating the digital world responsibly.

Maths

The children have been shaping up to be brilliant mathematicians this week, as we consolidated our understanding of 2D shape. We sorted 2D shapes by different properties, being careful to use mathematical language to describe them, such as ‘adjacent’ and ‘perpendicular’.

Test your child on the properties of these quadrilaterals:

Science

This week in science, we studied the lifecycles of reptiles, insects and amphibians before dissecting a flower to identify all the important parts that enable them to reproduce. This will lead us on to look at our Relationships and Sex Education Unit during the week beginning 10th March.

Ask your child if they can name the parts of the flower.

Homework

Baffling Bodies project

Your child needs to answer 10 of their own questions about the human body using non-fiction books and websites to find things out. Present the information creatively and remember to include pictures and diagrams.

Due in: Monday 31 March.

Spellings

Please make sure your child practises their spellings throughout the week.

graceful, gracefully, cheerful, cheerfully, delightful, delightfully, frightful, frightfully, powerful, powerfully, wonderful, wonderfully, colourful, colourfully, faithful, faithfully

We will test these on 3rd March.
