JTLYK 28 February
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had a fantastic start to the term, and the children have really immersed themselves in our new topic on volcanoes. This week, they thoroughly enjoyed learning about the four layers of the Earth. They’ve discovered some fascinating facts, such as the depth of the Earth's crust and the varying temperatures of each of these layers.
In Maths, the children have recently completed their unit on calculating the perimeters of 2D shapes. They have explored various strategies to calculate perimeters and have practised applying these methods. Additionally, the children have had the opportunity to explain their reasoning for solving different problems, which has helped to deepen their understanding of the concepts.
Can you have a go at the following task?
In Writing, the children have been introduced to news reports, learning about their structure, including the headline, lead, main body, and tail. They also worked on sentence structure, focusing on adding appropriate conjunctions to connect their sentences. We’re looking forward to supporting their progress and encouraging their ideas for their news reports over the upcoming weeks!
Best wishes,
The Year 3 Team

Author Event
Next week is our STEM Book Week in which we will be celebrating the world of traditional tales and the science behind them. We are kicking off the week with a visit from the author, Catherine Crawford whose book "Big Bad Wolf Investigates Fairy Tales" explores the scientific truths behind some of our favourite stories. Catherine will be doing a presentation at both of the schools on Monday 3rd  March.
The books are available to buy at a discounted price of £6.00 (normally £7.99). If you go to ParentPay you can purchase books online from now. Books will get signed and given to your child after the event. Please make clear the name of the child and the class. Please order by Friday if you want the child's name included in the signing. You can still order books up until Sunday night but they will just get a signature.
Book Swap
On World Book Day, next Thursday, we will be holding a “book swap” event. If you have any children’s books that you would like to donate, please send them into school with your child. All children (whether or not they have donated a book) will have the opportunity to choose a book from the selection. We would appreciate as many donations as possible!
Parent Consultations
Parent consultations on the 4th and 6th of March. Please check your appointment time and if there are any problems or you are unable to attend an appointment, talk to your child’s class teacher and they will be able to organise an alternative appointment.
