Y3 JTLYK 23 May

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a fantastic final week of term we have had! The children had an amazing time on their trip to Henley Fort, where they stepped back in time and fully immersed themselves in their learning about World War II. Dressed as Air Raid Wardens and Home Guard officers, they explored a range of authentic bomb shelters and got a real sense of life on the Home Front. It was a truly memorable experience.

A huge thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help on the trip - your support made the day even more special and we really appreciate it.

To celebrate the end of this half term, the children took part in Fluffy Friday, and we absolutely loved seeing all of their fantastic creations and hearing about what they had experienced. What a wonderful way to wrap up the term!

In Maths, the children learnt to find non-unit fractions of a set of objects by using their understanding of numerators and denominators. They divided the whole into equal parts and then calculated the total for the number of parts needed, often using bar models to support them. The focus remained on fractions linked to the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 10 times-tables.

Can you use the picture to complete the sentences?

This week in English, the children posted their Flat Evacuees along with their letters, so their recipients should be receiving them soon! They have also started a new unit on poetry, exploring World War II poems and identifying key poetic features such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, similes, metaphors, and more. After half term, the children will write and publish their own WWII poems, which will be compiled into a book!
