Y1 JTLYK 23 May
Dear parents and carers,
Happy half term! The first half of summer term has gone very quickly, full of growing plants, and phonics! The phonics screening is the second week back after half term so please practice with your children as much as you can over the half term.
The highlight of this week was of course Fluffy Friday, the children had a fantastic time trying new activities and mixing with all the children at Pewley Down School. We have also done lots of PSHE this week, looking at screen safety, water safety and road safety. On Thursday we painted our clay flowers that we have been so carefully making over the half term, they are off to the kiln and we cannot wait to see how they turn out!
In maths we have looked at finding and recognising a quarter of a quantity. A lesson the children particularly enjoyed was at the start of the week where we used playdough to find halves and quarters.
Phonics and Tricky Words
We are continuing to revisit phonics that we have learned so far in Year 1. This week we focused on:
Tricky words
any, many, who, whole, two, today, because, people, laugh
Phonics
- ‘ph’ as in phone
- ‘wh’ as in whisper
- ‘ie’ as in shield
- ‘g’ as in giant
