Y4 JTLYK 16 May
This week the children were enormously respectful, keeping quiet and calm around school whilst Year 6 completed their SATs!
Please read the information below about a special NSPCC assembly we will be holding Tuesday 20th May.

Dear Parent/Carer
NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Year 4 Assembly Tuesday May 20th 2025
We are pleased to inform you that we are participating in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Programme this term. Speak out. Stay safe. is a programme for children aged 5-11 which aims to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs of abuse. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.
This child friendly programme is aligned with the curriculum and consists of an age appropriate virtual assembly and supporting classroom based discussion. The content is delivered in an engaging and interactive way with the help of the NSPCC mascot Buddy.
Parents and carers are asked to let school know if their child may have experienced anything (in the past or happening now) which may mean they need extra support before, during or after taking part in this programme.
If you would like to know more about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme visit www.nspcc.org.uk/speakout.

The Year 4 Team
English
This week we have been learning about the features a balance argument (and that it does NOT mean shouting!). Can your child tell you what these features are? We had great fun making our case for whether (or not) Jeff should be friends with Bradley.
Spelling – this week the words contain prefixes.
incorrect, interior, illegible, illegal, immature, immortal, impatient, impossible, irregular, irresponsible
We will check these next Monday 19th May.
In SPaG this week, we looked at possessive apostrophes. We had to think carefully about where to put the apostrophe (everything to the left of the apostrophe is the owner). We studied lots of collective nouns so we know what do with plural words such as children: The child’s house is over there. The children’s house is down the hill. Also, when a noun is plural, we add the apostrophe after the s, for example – the girls’ bathroom.
Maths
We continue to use the iPads to play the ‘soundcheck’ game on TT Rock Stars. It is useful to look at their heat maps when they come home to check where there are any gaps.
During our maths lessons, we have been learning about tenths and hundredths as fractions and decimals. We have divided 1 and 2 digit numbers by 10 and by 100 and learned how to make a whole one with tenths and hundredths too!
Science
We learned about the terms ‘pollination’ and ‘fertilisation’ this week and found out how this happens in flowers. See if your child can describe how pollen moves around and what happens when it arrives on a stigma!
This afternoon we hung out some tea towels in various stages of dampness around the school to investigate where the water goes, and if heat has an effect!
RE
This week we continued learning about how serving the community is very important to Sikhs. The children were fascinated to hear about what happens in a Gurdwara and the special ways everyone is treated with respect and equality. See if your child can remember any of them! There is a new Sikh temple in Farnborough which would be a fascinating visit for you and your family – and you will get delicious free food!
PE
This week the children practised their athletics skills by using jumping and sprint starts to compete against each other.
