Y5 JTLYK 9 May
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to a JTLYK Brenscombe special edition… We are all looking forward to our trip next week. Here are some important last items to check to ensure we are ready and raring for next week:
Monday:
-
Castle trip in Guildford. Thank you to the parents who have offered to accompany us on this walking trip. We will be leaving at 9.15 and returning shortly before midday.
Tuesday:
- Children are expected to arrive at school at 8.15am.
- Any children with travel sickness should take a tablet before coming to school.
- Please walk your child with their bags down to the chapel. No parent cars will be admitted to the car park to allow space for the coaches.
- At the chapel, parents will be able to drop all medical supplies (for their child over the course of the week) to Kayleigh, including travel sickness tablets for the return journey home.
- The children will keep their day bag (with packed lunch and water) from home with them on the coach, while their big bag will be lined up ready to store in the hold.
Friday:
-
Our expected return time is 4.30pm. We will ParentMail an updated arrival time that afternoon.
Weather update:
Please check for any changing weather updates this weekend. It currently seems to be fine weather for the duration of the trip. This will mean that children need sunny weather supplies; their own suncream, sunhat and a good size water bottle, T-shirts to wear with their backpack, etc. However, the evenings on the field are likely to be considerably cooler; temperatures may go down to as low as 6 degrees overnight. Children will therefore also need a warm waterproof coat, long trousers and multiple layers.
Please encourage them to get lots of rest this weekend so they are ready for the jam-packed week coming up.
Helen, Kayleigh and Scarlett

Kit List
During the activities, Brenscombe provides all the required safety equipment.
All clothing should be labelled with the child’s name and participants are responsible for their personal belongings.
We strongly suggest that people do not bring jewellery or new/expensive clothes as the nature of the activities can get clothes wet, muddy or worn.
During water sports activities you will have to wear securely-fitting closed-toe footwear that will get wet and muddy (old trainers or water shoes).
Things to think about when packing your bag:
- How many days are you at the Centre?
- Are you doing any water sports?
- What do you want to wear during the evening or when not on activity sessions?
- What will you wear to sleep in or if you need to get up and walk to the toilet in the night?
- What are you going to keep wet and dirty clothes in after activity sessions?
- What’s the weather likely to be like?
What to pack:
- Waterproof Jacket
- Shoes (At least two pairs of shoes are needed)
- Walking boots/outdoor shoes
- Closed toe shoes like old trainers for water activities (Crocs and flip flops are not suitable for this)
