Curriculum

YR JTLYK 9 May

Dear Parents,

We have had another busy week in school. We learnt about the lifecycle of a frog as part of our Growing topic and made our own frog life cycle. In maths we have been focusing on number bonds to 10. Today the children prepared their own snack, choosing 10 cut up pieces of 2 fruits. We represented these and talked about the number sentence before eating them. For example 6 pieces of banana and 4 pieces of strawberry—6 and 4 makes 10. Check Tapestry for photos.

We also found out about the famous artist Claude Monet and all had a go at our own waterlilies creation in the Impressionism style of Monet.

Our trip to the Look Out Centre in Bracknell is on Tuesday 1st July. If you are able to join us on this trip please let Beccy or Hayley know. Thank you!

As the weather warms up we’re going to be outside more without our jumpers on. Please make sure that jumpers have names in them! It is also a good idea to make sure that your child has sun cream on in the morning before coming to school and comes in with a named sun hat.

In our PE lessons this term we will be going outdoors. Please can you ensure your child has a pair of trainers to wear. Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.

Phonics

We have learnt 4 new tricky words this week. They are: were, here, little, and says. Please practise these at home along with the earlier ones learnt as we are finding that the children have forgotten some of them. You could make the words in sand or shaving foam using a paintbrush or your finger. You could hide the words around the house or outside and go on a tricky word hunt. Please continue to practise all the phonemes.

Stay and Play

On Friday 16th May it’s ‘Stay and Play’. Parents are invited to come and play in Reception with their child from 2pm. If you can’t make it yourself feel free to invite grandparents/other relatives instead. We look forward to seeing you.

Baby Photos…a reminder

This term we are learning all about Growing. This weekend, (if you haven’t already, it’s not too late!) we’d love you to have a look for a baby photo of your child that they can bring into school or email Beccy/Hayley so we can print them out. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be thinking about how we’ve grown and changed as we’ve got older.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

The Reception team.
