High Ashurst Update

We now have enough children participating to proceed with our High Ashurst trip in June! We will organise a briefing for parents to take place in the next couple of weeks. Stand by…

It was a short week this week, however we have packed a lot in! We very much enjoyed our lovely walk to the Chantry Wood yesterday. The bluebells were spectacularly lit by the changing light of the sun. The children used their senses to write notes about their experience so that they will be able to write their own bluebell poems next week.

English

Using some famous bluebell poems, the children have practised spotting features of poetry including alliteration, personification, rhyme etc. They will be trying to incorporate these features into their poems.

In SPaG this week we revisited pronouns – both personal and possessive. Our spellings this week have the ‘s’ phoneme, written as either an ‘s’, ‘ss’, ‘x’ or a ‘c’. We will check these next week on 28th April:

experience, certain, circle, recent, decide, suppose, business, purpose, strength, interest

Maths

We have finished our learning (for now!) on fractions by looking at ‘fraction families’ as well as adding and subtracting fractions from mixed numbers..

Science

To begin our new science unit, the children enjoyed looking at the life cycle of a plant. We talked about what is needed to grow healthy plants (drawing on previous knowledge) and then learnt how seeds can be distributed via various methods – can your child tell you what they are?

Art

Inspired by our visit to see the blue bells, the children painted their interpretations and observations of this wild flower. We carefully mixed blues, purples and greens to paint ‘bluebell portraits’ that will be used to decorate our poems.
