Y4 JTLYK 28 March

Almost there! Don’t forget we finish early on Friday 4th at 1.45 pm.

We are really looking forward to seeing you on Monday afternoon from 2 pm. We will be just inside the main entrance on the ramps! Your child should bring in their invention first thing on Monday morning so that we can all set up our exhibition before lunch.

English

The children have made their advertisements for their crazy inventions, using the very best of persuasive writing skills!  We hope you will be tempted to ‘purchase’ them on Monday!

Spellings to learn this week all have the ‘j’ sound:

inject, object, image, imagine, adjust, geography, knowledge, footbridge, submerge, emerge

We will check these on 31st March.

Maths

So, can your child explain what an ‘improper fraction’ is?  We used them quite a lot this week!  The children learned how to convert an improper fraction to a mixed number (remember those?) and then vice versa.  With lots and lots of practice, we are beginning to feel more confident about this tricky aspect of maths.  We will continue again after the holidays.  Meanwhile, here is a reminder of some facts from this week:

TT Rockstars

4SJ took the honours this week (about time!)  but the latest competition between the Year 4 classes is live again!  Please help your child to log on and play for 10 minutes to win the trophy this week.  All this whilst learning times tables in a fun way.

Here is another website to help make their times table learning fun!

DT

This week the children have been evaluating existing water bottle holders, in order to design one for themselves!  Thanks to everyone who donated a t-shirt.  Great patience has been shown by us all, as the children learn how to thread a needle and learn to sew different stitches.  Backstitch is proving popular and very effective.  We carefully cut out our designs and made our creations with considerable concentration.  The children then attached the handle and lobster clip to make the holder really useful!

RE

This week we have been talking about why Jesus celebrated Passover. We took time to discuss the symbols of Passover and how they relate to the first communion of the Last Supper. The children talked about why He chose this particular meal to be His last and how bread and wine are common to both celebrations.

PE

Continuing our football skills training, the children used their dribbling skills to practise tackling and closing down their opponents. ‘Delay, Deny, Dictate!’ is our new motto!
