6 February 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been a relatively quiet HTPD week, but full of excellent learning. I’ve once again seen some fabulous examples of work for Headteacher’s Awards. All our staff really enjoy hearing the children’s views on the many aspects of school life. Last week I had some inspiring conversations about our values and RE at Pewley, and our pupil EDI group shared an abundance of thoughtful and positive feedback. Their insights genuinely shape the initiatives and developments we put in place.

On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Bishop Paul for a visit. It had been some time since he was last here, and he had never previously visited the infants. We began the afternoon with Collective Worship at the Juniors, led by Bishop Paul. The children learnt that a bishop’s hat is shaped rather like a candle, and we continued exploring this week’s theme: the Fruit of the Spirit—Peace—and the idea that shoes form part of the Armour of God. Bishop Paul brought along a selection of shoes as props and shared a familiar challenge many of us face—a back door filled with abandoned footwear!

It was a delight to walk with him around both sites, sharing what makes HTPD such a special place. The children spoke thoughtfully and confidently, asking plenty of insightful questions. Our visit ended at the infants, where the children made the Bishop feel very welcome, even entertaining him with some of their favourite jokes before a final Collective Worship at Pewley. We enjoyed the afternoon so much that I’ve already secured a date in his diary for Fluffy Friday… in May 2027!

We were delighted to welcome Agnes, our new Extended Schools Manager, at the start of this term. If you use PUPS or CLUBS+, please check ParentMail for an important email outlining additional safeguarding measures we are putting in place to support children’s safety and wellbeing.

Traditionally, Year 4 pupils take part in the Guildford Pancake Races; however, this year the event falls during half‑term. If you would like to join in as a family, please see the flyer below for more information.

Next week is shaping up to be a very busy end to the half‑term! We will be marking Children’s Mental Health Week and Internet Safety Day. Year 4 are visiting Brooklands Museum, Reception and Year 1 have their Sportshall sessions, and of course we finish the week with the much‑anticipated FLUFFY Friday!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Vicky

Thought of the week: Papaya “Make peace!” How can you be a peacemaker today?

The Pewley House Poetry Challenge -  Thursday 12th February

It is nearly time for our House Poetry event at the Infants!    The buzz around the school has been fantastic as the children have been practising the poems they are going to share in 'The Pewley House Poetry Challenge' on Thursday 12th February.

It's not too late if your child hasn't chosen a poem yet.   They can learn a poem and read it aloud, they can learn a poem off by heart or they can write a poem to read or perform.

If your child would like to join in, please help them to choose (or write) a short poem and help them to practise reading it or performing it.

The children have been offered some poems but they may prefer to choose one at home and to learn it with you.

Short (or even very short) poems are ideal!

Thank you for helping them to develop their love of poetry!
