30 January 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

One of the highlights of my week is welcoming children to my office to receive Headteacher Awards. This week, I have seen some truly fabulous work across the curriculum and across all year groups. The pride children take in their work—and in achieving more than they thought possible—is a wonderful reminder of why we chose careers in education.

There have also been many great examples of learning being brought to life across the school. Year 1 created impressive bug hotels during their outdoor learning sessions, and Year 5 were lucky to welcome a special visitor to share insights into Hindu worship—our friend Nidhi. It was lovely to see Nidhi again and to learn more about Puja together.

Unfortunately, our cross‑country event had to be cancelled this week due to ground conditions. However, we have still enjoyed a successful week of indoor sport. On Tuesday morning, a team of Year 5 and 6 pupils competed against ten local primary schools in the Sportshall competition at the Spectrum. The children gave their absolute best and were rewarded with 1st place in Guildford—a fantastic achievement. They will now progress to the County Finals later this term.

One aspect of school life we are particularly proud of at HTPD is our strong House system. This provides children with a sense of belonging beyond their class or year group and offers opportunities for fun alongside healthy competition. This term, House Chess is underway in the Juniors, and we are looking forward to House Poetry in the Infants before half term.

Following my email to Junior parents earlier this week, I would like to gently remind you that the HT playground is not supervised by staff until 8:30am. If you arrive at school before this time, children must be supervised by an adult until staff are on duty. If your child walks to school independently, please ensure they leave home in time to arrive between 8:30 and 8:40am. The safety of our children is always our priority. This is a long‑standing arrangement and not a recent change. As always, before‑school clubs and Breakfast Club are available should you need to drop your child off earlier.

Now that Christmas has come and gone—and toy boxes may be feeling rather full—you might be thinking about a spring clean. If so, we would be very grateful for donations of board and card games, imaginative play equipment and costumes, or construction toys. Donations can be left for Georgie at the office. If you have any questions, please contact her by email at georgief@htpd.surrey.sch.uk. Thank you in advance for your support.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

Vicky

The Pewley House Poetry Challenge - Year R, 1 and 2 - Thursday 12th February

Our next house event at the infants was launched this week!  The children have been invited to take part in 'The Pewley House Poetry Challenge' on Thursday 12th February.  They can learn a poem and read it aloud, they can learn a poem off by heart or they can write a poem to read or perform.  If your child would like to join in, please help them to choose (or write) a short poem and help them to practise reading it or performing it.  The children will be offered some poems at school if they need help with choosing a poem. Short (or even very short) poems are ideal! This is a fun, optional activity. We know the children are excited to take part. Thank you for helping them to develop their love of poetry!
