20 June 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

It’s been an incredibly busy week across the school!

This week, each Year 4 class visited Dapdune Wharf as part of their rivers topic. We are so fortunate to have the River Wey on our doorstep and extremely grateful to Nancy Wilks for being our own HTPD, personal tour guide. The children had a fabulous time consolidating their historical knowledge, working scientifically to investigate the speed of the river and completing some artwork. Ice lollies were definitely a well-deserved treat to end these hot and busy days.

Year 5 were lucky enough to receive a visit from Surrey Fire & Rescue Service this week, for some hands-on fire safety learning and reminders. They discovered the main causes of household fires, how to prevent them, and how to keep safe. They are now our smoke alarm testing experts!

It’s also been a week of very hot sporting activity!

On an extremely hot Wednesday afternoon, 20 Y5 girls took part in the annual Guildfordians Rugby Club Girls Festival at Stoke Park. With over 100 girls from local primary schools, the girls were coached by members of the current U18 ladies team, along with 2 Red Roses players. Within the afternoon, all the girls were playing competitive games of Tag, as well as learning how to tackle using the tackle bags.

Also on Wednesday, HTPD hosted an Infant Football Festival for local schools. It was a boiling afternoon but a huge success. It was wonderful to welcome the younger children to our school for this great opportunity. We are extremely grateful to Guildford Saints for helping to organise and run the event. We look forward to running it again next year.

It was a fantastic day of sports and smiles at the infants today! From running and bouncing, to scoring football goals; every child gave it their all and earned valuable points for their house. We are so proud of everyone for joining in with such enthusiasm. Have a look on Tapestry for some photos of all the fun. We’ll reveal the final results in next week’s assembly—stay tuned! Keep an eye out for our next infant house event, which will be announced next week! Meanwhile, at the Juniors, the children are busy honing their musical talent for the upcoming House Music Competition – on Thursday 3rd July.

The Year 6 children have had a brilliant, albeit hot, week in Shropshire. We look forward to welcoming them back this afternoon and hearing all about it.

A date to put in the diary for parents of all musicians at the juniors: 1.15pm, Monday 21st July. Before the whole school enjoy ‘Celebration Afternoon’, there will be an outdoor concert in the Arena. This will feature the orchestra, choirs, and recorder groups as well as some selected individuals from the House Music competition. We hope that lots of you will come and join us as we showcase their hard work from the year.

Please remember that school is closed on Monday for mid-summer holiday. Enjoy the glorious weather and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

Best wishes

Vicky
