Y2 JTLYK 2 May

Reading reminder:

Please can the children’s book folders be brought into school each Thursday so that we can check who is reading at home and give out well earnt Dojo Points! We will then return the folders with the children’s new books on Friday.

Unfortunately, we are missing quite a few books from various sets which means we don’t have enough books for some of the groups. Please do have a look at home to see if you have any unreturned books lying around.

Thank you!

PE reminder:

PE has moved back to a Wednesday afternoon for both classes after the Easter Holidays. Please make sure PE kits come back into school as a lot of children didn’t have kits this week

Dear parents and carers,

It’s been a rather hot week and the children have coped well with keeping hydrated and staying protected from the sun.

In maths this week, we began a new unit on fractions. We have understood parts and wholes as well as if parts are equal or unequal. We have begun to recognise a ½ and the children have applied their understanding of dividing by 2 brilliantly.

In English, the children have used their new found facts about squirrels, foxes and hedgehogs to write about what the animals look like and why. They have used conjunctions such as; that, because and but and varied sentence openers brilliantly in their paragraphs. We have also seen lots of beautiful handwriting.

Our Geography trip to the wild place was a brilliant morning and saw lots of smiles and excited voices when exploring the two different areas and its microhabitats. The children made us very proud with their positive attitudes and were really sensible whilst exploring the area.

In computing, we started looking at coding. We carefully thought about the instructions that robots need to complete a task. The children gave some very detailed instructions, however, some children did end up in circles when told to just turn right and so they kept on turning! We learnt that giving really clear instructions is therefore really important.

In PE, we began our football skills unit and practiced dribbling and stopping the ball. The children had a lot of fun stopping the ball with their bottom, back and tummies. They even had a go at making sure the teachers couldn’t get their ball by keeping it close to their feet.

In RE, we looked at who is special to us. Unsurprisingly, families and friends came out on top. The children said they loved the fact these people are generous, kind, brave, good company and loving. It was lovely to hear all the wonderful things that were shared about the people that make such a difference to their lives.
