Dear Parents and Carers
What a lovely week of sunshine!
With the summer term properly underway, we have now begun our new assembly series which this term is based upon John Bunyan’s book, Pilgrim’s Progress. In the book, Christian, a traveller, journeys through the countryside on a quest for a perfect place – God’s heavenly city. With so much beautiful countryside on our doorstep, I’m hoping this glorious weather continues for us all to enjoy.
This week, Year 4 were visited by Alistair from the River Wey Trust. He brought his augmented reality sandbox, where the children had the chance to shape the sand to create landscapes and watch as virtual water flowed through their creations. As they moulded mountains and valleys, the sandbox projected realistic water simulations, showing how rivers carve their paths through the terrain. The children learnt about river dynamics, erosion and oxbow lakes in an interactive and engaging way. By adjusting the sand, they could see how changes in the landscape affect the flow of water, providing a hands-on understanding of the natural processes that shape our environment. This immersive experience was a great introduction to the Year 4 geography topic on Rivers.
Our Year 5 football team put in a fantastic performance on Tuesday afternoon in a football tournament hosted at HT. They competed against nine other schools from across Guildford and secured an impressive 3rd place finish, narrowly missing out on the final after a nail-biting penalty shootout in the semi-finals. On Thursday, we took a group of our top runners to a cross-country event at Boxgrove School. Despite the scorching weather, everyone gave it their all and had a great time. We were incredibly proud of all who took part.
Finally, a traffic and parking plea. I have received a report from a concerned parent this week after their child was nearly knocked over when a car pulled onto the pavement and manoeuvred in order to drop off their own child/children at HT. We acknowledge school drop offs and pick-ups are busy times but ask that you do not rush and undertake poor manoeuvre; it is safer to arrive late, than risk the safety of the local and school community.
Have a wonderful long weekend, we hope you enjoy the bank holiday on Monday! See you all on Tuesday.
Best wishes
Vicky
