Dear parents and carers

As we approach the end of the year, I want to take this opportunity to thank our HTSC and FOPS committees for a year of fabulous fundraising. Both our parent-teacher associations play a vital part in our school community, not only providing a much needed financial boost to our school fund, but also bringing whole families together and enabling our wider school family to thrive. I’ve loved taking part in a whole range of fun social occasions this year, from school fayres to Firework Night, and look forward to tomorrow’s Pewley summer fayre as the last event of the season!

This year, thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to purchase new iPads, re-equip our junior school music room, buy beautiful carpets in YR and Y1, plus countless useful classroom extras! We’re so grateful, and the children really benefit. We’ve also been able to provide finances to enable every child to access our wider curriculum. It’s so good that we can invite all our children to join in with day-trips and residentials, whatever their financial circumstances. Our school hardship fund is a visible and practical sign of the way our school cares for one another. It’s just great to be part of such a supportive community.

I’ll be parent-mailing the whole parent body about ways that you might like to help us continue the work of HTSC and FOPS. Please do take a look and let me know if you’d like to get involved. With several key individuals stepping down or moving on, there really is something for everybody, whatever time and skills you might have available.

Next Tuesday, we’re all excited about Sports’ Day taking place across the whole school. Do come along to cheer for your house (YR-Y2 at 9am at Pewley, Y3-4 at 11am at HT, Y5-6 at 1.15pm with the final junior school relays just before home time at 2.15pm; the children can come in wearing their PE kits if they have them at home). I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Also next week, we are looking ahead to Wednesday when we have a Church School inspection. This takes place every five years – some of you may remember it happening a couple of years ago at Pewley. This time the junior school is being inspected. We’ll be welcoming Pamela Draycott to the school and working with her to evaluate how well our school vision of “Learn to Live” is embedded in all that we do. I’ll let you know how it all goes.

Handwriting Club
There will be no handwriting club with Bridgit on Monday 8 July, but it will be back to normal on Tuesday.

Sports Day, Tuesday 9 July, 9.15 am
Please wait up on the field after drop-off, and stand at the outside edges to watch the children. They will be competing in their house groups and these will be clearly marked.

Children should wear their PE kits to school on Tuesday: Y2 kits are already at home; Y1 will bring kits home on Monday; YR will bring kits home today. Please remember a sun hat and water bottle.

Year 2 packed lunches
Walnut Class should bring a packed lunch next Wednesday 10 July.

Year 2 Dinosaur museum, Friday 12 July
Parents are welcome to come and look round the museum from 9.15 to 10.15 am. More details in Just to Let You Know.

Golden Boot Challenge
The results were announced in assembly today. Willow Class were the overall winners with the biggest change in ‘green’ travel to school – by last Friday 78% were coming to school by green methods of travel.

Year 1
A Child Information Form for swimming lessons in September is coming home in book bags today. Please return completed forms by Wednesday 10 July.

Outstanding payments
We would be grateful if any outstanding money for trips and swimming lessons could be paid by next Friday 12 July.

Ballet Club show
Parents are invited to the Ballet Show on Thursday 18 July at 3.30 pm.

  • 11.00am to 12.00pm – Yr3/4 races – Parents can start arriving at 10.45
  • 1.15pm to 2.15pm – Yr5/6 races
  • 2.15pm to 3.15pm – relay’s, tug of war and presentation – Parents can start arriving at 1pm

You can park in the playground/basketball court.

Children will be given a lolly at the end of the day back in class (thanks to HTSC). Please do not buy other refreshments for the children during the session.

Refreshments will be on sale for parents/carers.

Thank-you for all the amazing donations this week! We have some fabulous looking hampers and fully stocked toys and bottle tombola stalls!

Remember you can keep selling your raffle tickets to family and friends (aged above 16 years old), more can be found in the school office if needed. The star prize this year is a Nintendo Switch kindly donated by our sponsors Cavender. Bring any cash and sold or unsold tickets with you on the day.

Games bands: If you have not collected your game band from the office this week, they will have gone home in children’s book bags today so please look out for these.

Volunteering for the Summer Fair: There are still a few volunteer slots available for the Summer Fair, especially towards the end. To make the fair a success, we need your help. There are all kinds of ways

Match Funding
Do you or your partner work at a company that offers match funding? This is a scheme where companies will match money raised at a certain event/stall that you volunteer at. Most large companies offer this and if you are planning on volunteering for events like the SUMMER FAIR (6th July) we would love to hear from you! New FOPS Committee needed for 2019/20
Many of our current members of FOPS are having to step down this year due children moving on to HT, and personal or professional reasons. With this in mind, we would love to have a prepared committee to hand over too in time for September. If you or a group of you are interested in becoming committee members, chairs or class rep next year please contact your current class rep or Kayleigh (kayleigh.ashraf@gmail.com) and we would be happy to have a chat. This is a perfect time to join us and get a feel for what we do. You could even shadow a current committee member as we organise the upcoming Summer Fair.

The vacant committee positions for 2019/2020 academic year are; Chair (or co-chairs), Treasurer, Secretary and Class Reps for each class. We have a short document outlining each of these roles which we can email to you if you would like.

Open Air cinema equipment needed
Do you or someone you know have access to projection and sound equipment? FOPS are planning a new event for the Autumn term which will see the back field turned into an open-air cinema. There are items for sale and notices on the board outside Oak class (next to the ramp downstairs) so do remember to have a look. If you would like to advertise something yourself, cards are in the office with Ruth and Jane (cards are £1 for a month or free if the item is free), so if you have something to sell let us know!

Shoes for Nicaragua
In Nicaragua, children are often not allowed to attend school if they can't afford shoes. We are collecting used children's shoes, any kind (but especially black school shoes) to send out to Nicaragua. So, if your child needs new shoes for the next academic year, this is the perfect opportunity to do something great with the old ones. Just send them into school, between now and early September and leave in the box at the lower entrance. Many thanks Laura (Ben, Walnut Class)

Challengers Event
Please find below a flyer from Challengers promoting a cross country running/walking event on Sunday 21st October 2019. Participants can take part in a half marathon, 10k or 5k run or walk and there’s also a 1k unlimited children’s race. 100% of the profit comes directly to Challengers; a local charity with a vision of creating a world where all children and young people can play together, freely.
